Background
Perry was born in Camden, New Jersey. He played basketball while in high school and his height was an advantage for him. His height earned him the nickname “Big Jim”. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, he worked as a singer in the Special Services during the Korean War.
Career
He first appeared on TV as the host for the popular Canadian game show “Fractured Phrases. Perry also hosted other popular shows, including “Definition”, “Headline Hunters” and most popularly “$ale of the Century”. From 1967-1990, he hosted the “Miss Canada” beauty pageant.
Retirement & Personal Life
Perry wrote two non-fiction books and starred in a couple of infomercials. With his wife, June, they welcomed two children, Sean and Erin. Perry died in 2010 from cancer.
