About Jim Simpson
Jim was named James Shores Simson at birth in Washington DC. He was famous for his ability to cover different sports as a sportscaster.
He grew up in Maryland and even at that age, he knew broadcasting was something he wanted to do. He schooled in George Washington University.
Career
He started broadcasting as a teenager and worked on “Hunting and Fishing with Jimmy Simpson”, a radio show. Initially, he worked in the Navy Reserve and as a coast guard before he started working with WTOP-TV. He later moved to WRC TV before joining NBC where he broadcasted sports like basketball, golf and tennis among others. He was the second-best announcer on the network after Curt Gowdy.
On behalf of NBC Radio, he called Super Bowl 1 together with George Ratterman in 1967. He joined ESPN in 1979 and retired later but was invited back by the network in 2005 to broadcast a few college basketball games.
Death
In January 2016, he died after being sick for a short time. It is said that he was watching a match which was also what he loved to do before ending up in the hospital.
