Jim Valvano was an American college basketball player, coach, and broadcaster.
Career
Jim Valvano's career as a basketball player was at Rutgers University. He played the position of point guard. While he was a playing there, Rutgers made it to the 1967 National Invitation Team, finishing in third place. That same year, he graduated from the university. He next started coaching, becoming an assistant coach at Rutgers. He then moved to Baltimore's Johns Hopkins University for his first job as head coach. He has been the head coach at three other schools, winning the 1983 NCAA Tournament as their coach.
