About Jimmy Durante
James Francis Durante, better known as Jimmy Durante was an American actor, comedian, vaudevillian, singer and pianist. Throughout the 1920s to the 1970s, he was one of the most well-known personalities in the US as a result of his unique gravelly speech, comic language-butchery and songs influenced by jazz. His prominent nose, which he nicknamed ‘the schnozzola’ also made him easily recognizable. His most popular works include the comedy films “What! No Beer?” and “The Passionate Plumber”; the hit single, “Inka Dinka Doo”; and the radio shows, “The Jimmy Durante Show” and “The Durante-Moore Show”.
Family Life
He was raised along with three elder siblings by their parents; Bartolomeo Durante and Rosa Lentino. He was married to Jean Olson from 1921 until her death in 1943. He married Margie Little in 1960 and they adopted a daughter, Cecilia Alicia.
Achievements
He won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1952.
Death
He died on 29 January 1980 from pneumonia aged 86.
