About Joachim Murat
Joachim Murat became a member of the French National Guard in 1790 when he was around 23 years old. Eight years later, he was placed in-charge of the French cavalry during the Egyptian expedition and also played a key role in the Battle of Abukir in 1799.
Four years later, during the historic Napoleonic Wars, he was appointed as the Prince of the French Empire. In 1806, Emperor Napoleon I selected him to occupy the position of the Grand Duke of Berg. Two years later, he was asked to replace Joseph-Napoléon Bonaparte as the King of Naples. He ruled the kingdom for seven years.
Family
He was the son of Jeanne Loubières and her postmaster husband Pierre Murat-Jordy. He was married to Princess Carolina Bonaparte, who was Napoleon I’s younger sister. Their marriage produced four kids named Prince Lucien Charles Joseph Napoléon, Princess Marie Letizia Murat, Princess Louise Julie Caroline Murat, and Prince Charles Louis Napoleon Achille Murat.
Death
King Ferdinand IV of Naples ordered for his arrest in 1815 and was later charged with treason. After his trial, he was given a death sentence which was executed by a firing squad.

During his reign as king, he was known as Joachim-Napoleon.
