About Joachim Streich
During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, the East Germany football team won bronze thanks to the German forward Joachim Streich. He played over a hundred times for his country, including games that were held at the 1972 Summer Olympics.
Amateur Career
The striker began his career in football at a young age. He started out at Aufbau Wismar from 1957 to 1963 and then moved on to play with TSG Wismar from 1963 to 1967. The young striker later played for the German youth team called Hansa Rostock from 1967 to 1969 before signing his first professional contract later that year.
Professional Career
The footballer made his professional debut with the Hansa Rostock senior team in 1969. He left after 6 years of playing with the team to play for FC Magdeburg from 1975 to 1985. Streich also had a successful run with the East Germany national team from 1969 to 1974 and the East Germany Olympic team in 1972.
He was named East German Footballer of the Year twice – in 1983 and 1979.
Career as a Coach
Joachim Streich also managed numerous teams, such as 1. FC Magdeburg from 1985 to 1990, Eintracht Braunschweig from 1990 to 1991 and 1. FC Magdeburg from 1991 to 1992.
