Joanna Cole was an American author who wrote books for children. She is internationally recognized for her book series, The Magic School Bus, which began in 1985. Before the series became a hit, she had worked as an elementary school librarian, a Newsweek letters correspondent, a Doubleday Books for Young Readers senior editor and a freelance children’s book writer.
Cole is credited with over 250 books in her writing career. She died on July 12, 2020 from lung disease known as Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
