About Joe Dassin
Joseph Ira Dassin as he was named was a well-known musician and actor who was born in New York. His father was an American movie director named Jules Dassin and his mother was a violinist.
Career
Working with his father gave him opportunities to act in a few movies including ‘He who must Die in 1957, ‘Topkapi’ in 1964 and ‘Nick Carter and Red Club’ in 1965.
Before filming his last movies in 1965, he signed with CBS Records and became the first musician of French origins to be signed by an American label. In about six years, he became a household name in France. He did not stop there. He recorded songs in different languages including Greek, Italian, English and Spanish.
Marriage
He got married twice. His first marriage suffered when they lost a child together and despite all his efforts, he couldn’t salvage the marriage.
How did Joe Dassin die?
During a vacation lunch outing at ‘Chez Michel et Éliane in Tahiti with friends and family in August 1980, Dassin suffered a heart attack and though the ambulance took over thirty minutes to arrive, a doctor at the restaurant did his best to save him but was unable to save him.
