About Joe Nieuwendyk
Joe Nieuwendyk was selected into the National Hockey League by the Calgary Flames in 1985, but made his league debut two years later. The Canadian former hockey star helped the team to win the Stanley Cup in 1989.
He went on to feature for teams like the New Jersey Devils, the Dallas Stars, and the Toronto Maple Leafs before retiring. During his two decade spell in the league, he won a total of three Stanley Cups.
International Career
The Ontario-born hockey player represented his country on many occasions. He made his senior debut in 1987 and played a key role in the country’s success at the Winter Olympics which was held in 1988.
Family
He’s the fourth child of Joanne and Gordon Nieuwendyk, and was raised together with three other siblings. He has been married to a lady called Tina with whom he fathers three kids named Kaycee, Jackson, and Tyra.
Education
Nieuwendyk graduated from Cornell University.
Achievements
The Canadian won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 1995, and the Conn Smythe Trophy four years later.
Trivia
He was mainly used at the center position.
Until 2018, he worked with the Carolina Hurricanes as an advisor and scout.
Nieuwendyk is one of the few hockey stars to win the Stanley Cup with at least three teams.
