About Joey Tempest
Joey Tempest is a Swedish singer and songwriter. He was the lead singer for the rock bank Europe and wrote some of the band’s biggest hits, including “The Final Countdown”, “Carrie”, and “Rock the Night.”
Early Life
Tempest learned how to play the piano and guitar as a young boy. He was also active in sports, playing football, ice hockey, and go-cart racing. When he was a teenager, he played in a couple of bands such as Made in Hong Kong, Jet, and Roxanne, where he either played rhythm guitar or bass.
Career
In 1979, Tempest formed the band Force with three other musicians. They changed their name to Europe three years later and released their debut studio album “Wings of Tomorrow” in 1984. The band had a successful run, with their biggest hit being “The Final Countdown”, which sold 15 million copies and topped charts in over 20 countries. Tempest decided to go solo in 1995 and released his first solo album “A Place to Call Home”, which earned him a Grammy nomination. In 2004, Europe reunited and released six albums.
Personal Life
Tempest married Lisa Worthington in 2000, and they have two sons, James and Jack.
