Early Life & Career
He grew up in Pressburg, Kingdom of Hungary as the only child of Johannes Hummel and Margarethe Sommer Hummel. At the genesis of his career, the former composer began studying at an early age with Wolf Amadeus Mozart. His father accompanied and toured with him through Bohemia, Germany, Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands and England for four years as a child-prodigy pianist.
Hummel studied for a year in England with Muzio Clementi. He then served as chapel master from 1804-1811 to the Esterhazy Family.
The virtuoso pianist’s most relevant compositions are his piano works which consists of; trios, sonatas, rondos and six concerti, all of which are elegant in style and virtuosic in their melodic writing and ornamentation.
His Family & Death
Johann tied the knot with Elisabeth Rockel in 1813 and their marriage spawned children named Eduard and Carl. He passed away in Weimar in 1837.
