About John Bardeen
John Bardeen was a famous American physicist and engineer who contributed immensely to the development of modern-day electronics. He began his career at Nokia Bell Labs where he worked with some famous scientists like Stanley Morgan and William Shockley.
It was during his time at the company that he teamed up with Walter Brattain to build the first-ever working transistor. He also helped to develop superconductors.
Family
His father Charles Bardeen, was the first person to be appointed as the dean of the Medical School of the University of Wisconsin. In 1938, he tied the knot with Jane Maxwell. Their three children include physicists William A. Bardeen and James M. Bardeen.
Education
He completed the University of Wisconsin and later moved to Princeton University.
Honors
Bardeen won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 and 1972. He also received many prizes including the National Medal of Science and the IEEE Medal of Honor. He became a member of the Royal Society in 1973.
Trivia
He’s the first person to win the Nobel Prize in Physics on two different occasions.
Life magazine included him in their 1990 "100 Most Influential Americans of the Century" list.
