About John Fabian Carlson
John Fabian Carlson was a legendary painter. In 1905, he started exhibiting his works in national exhibitions. He got a scholarship from The Arts Students League Summer School to learn Landscape painting. In 1908, he became the assistant director of Woodstock. He also got chosen to be an Associate member of the National Academy of Design and won an award at the Swedish-American Exhibition.
Personal Life
John was born in Kalmar County in Sweden and about nine years later, his family moved to the United States and settled in Buffalo. He started getting educated at the Art Students League. He also studied with Lucius Wolcott Hitchcock.
Achievements
He won the Vezin Prize for watercolors from the Salmagundi Club and also won the first Isidor Prize. In 1915, he won a silver medal at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. In 1918, he was awarded the Altman First Prize by the National Academy of Design.
He released an instructional book named “Elementary Principles of Landscape Paintings”. The book has been retitled “Carlson’s Guide to Landscape Painting”. He became a teacher at Broadmoor Art Academy in Colorado. In1922, he founded the John F. Carlson School of Landscape Painting.
