About John Garfield

John Garfield was a stage and film actor from America. He began his career as a theater actor before entering the film industry in 1937. Coming from a poor background, he engaged in several social vices which led to his dismissal from school on three occasions and later landed him in a special school.

However, he was able to change his story due to the guidance and counseling of Angelo Patri, and Margaret O'Ryan. After his transformation, he took on stage acting. Some of the plays he staged include “Counsellor-at-Law”, “Waiting for Lefty”, and “Awake and Sing”.

Due to the excellent performances he displayed in the above plays, he soon landed an offer in Hollywood with Warner Bros. This gave him the opportunity to be featured in several films such as “They Made Me a Criminal” in 1939, “Out of the Fog” in 1941, and “Thank Your Lucky Stars” in 1943.

Family

His parents were David Garfinkle and Hannah. He had a sibling named Max. In 1935, he got married to Roberta Seidman. He gave birth to three children namely, David Garfield, Katherine Garfield, and Julie Garfield.

Death

He died as a result of long-term heart disease in 1952.
