About John Hockenberry
John Charles Hockenberry, a correspondent for Dateline NBC and a multiple Emmy and Peabody Award winner, has worked as a journalist and pundit for more than 20 years. He has written for nearly every media outlet as a journalist from all around the world, including The Washington Post, Harper’s Magazine, and The New York Times.
Hockenberry’s work "Moving Violations: War Zones, Wheelchairs and Declarations of Independence” earned reasonable praise as it made it on the final list of the National Book Critics Circle Award.
Background
During a hitchhiking incident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in 1976, he sustained an injury, which turned him into a paraplegic. In 1980, he relocated from the University of Chicago to the University of Oregon to pursue piano and harpsichord.
He has been married twice and has five children with his ex-wife Allison Criaglow.
Career
He began working for KLCC, an affiliate of National Public Radio in Eugene, Oregon, as a volunteer. He relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1981 and worked as a newscaster. He reported on the Persian Gulf War (1991-1992) while working for NPR.
After leaving NPR, he worked for ABC News and contributed to publications like The New York Times and Washington Post.
Sexual Misconduct Claims
Author Suki Kim accused him of sexual harassment in 2017, claiming that he had written her and other women provocative emails and made unwanted sexual advances.
