About John Landis
John Landis is best known for his behind-the-scenes works for a number of comedy movies. His most popular work is perhaps the 1988 movie titled “Coming to America” which starred American actor Eddie Murphy. His role as the director for the music video of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" further cemented his name in the movie industry.
He started his career as one of 20th Century Fox’s mailboys before he was promoted to the position of a deputy director 1969.
Legal issues
During the shooting of the film titled “Twilight Zone” in 1982, a number of actors including Vic Morrow and Renee Shin-Yi Chen were accidently killed by a loose helicopter. Law enforcers charged him with involuntary manslaughter.
Family
His parents were Marshall Landis and Shirley Magaziner. He has been married to American author Deborah Nadoolman since 1980. They have two kids including filmmaker Max Landis.
Achievements
His outstanding works have earned him many awards including Primetime Emmy Awards' “Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special” and Phoenix Film Festival Award.
Trivia
He was one of the signatories of the petition to free Polish-French filmmaker Roman Polanski.
