About John Lautner
In 1938, after working as an apprentice for a number of years, American architect John Lautner established his own company in California. The following year, he designed his Los Angeles home which would be known as the Lautner House.
Known for his futuristic designs, Lautner worked on many popular structures mostly in Los Angeles. Some famous structures that he worked on were the Paul Sheats House, and the Leonard Malin House.
Family
He was named after his dad who was also called John Edward Lautner. His mother’s maiden name was Vida Cathleen Gallagher. His first marriage to MaryBud Roberts ended in divorce. In 1948, he wedded Elizabeth Gilman.
Laurels
He received the Cody Award in 1980, and the Architectural Record Award for Excellence nine years earlier.
Trivia
His J.W. Schaffer House was featured in the 2009 film “A Single Man”.
He was the Olympic architect for the Summer Olympic Games in 1984.
