Family
Olerud was born to John E. and Lynda Olerud. His father was also a baseball player who played with the Washington State Cougars and served as the Catcher and Captain for the team. He studied at Interlake High School.
New York Mets and Other Teams
He started his baseball career from college and his first match was in 1984, when he hit .414 with five home runs and 20 RBIs. His last match in college was in 1989, which was the same year he was drafted to Toronto Blue Jays. Olerud played with the team for seven years and was later signed to the New York Mets. Other teams he played for include Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees.
His last team was with the Boston Red Sox in 2005, and that same year he retired from active play.
Achievements
He was inducted into the National College Hall of Fame. Also, the collegiate John Olerud Two-Player of the Year Award is named after him.
Personal Life
He married his high school sweetheart Kelly and has two children with her.
