About John Sculley
John Sculley started from a humble background before rising to become one of the highest paid businessmen in the world. He started his career as an employee of Marschalk Co. before joining the Pepsi-Cola department of PepsiCo.
He began his time in the company as a trainee in 1967 and was made company’s marketing vice-president three years later. He was named as the president of the organization’s International Food Operations department in 1974. His most memorable time at the company was the introduction of the popular Pepsi Challenge in 1975.
Sculley rose to international stardom after he was made the CEO of American tech company, Apple Inc., in 1983. He served in that position for a decade. It was under his tenure that the company introduced a number of initiatives including the PowerPC microprocessor, and Siri.
Other projects
Known to be a very successful businessman, Sculley has also invested in other ventures. He’s the co-founder of the tech company Zeta Global, alongside David A. Steinberg. He’s also one of the originators of the manufacturing company Obi Worldphone.
Family
He’s the son of John Sculley, Jr. and Margaret Blackburn. In 1960, he married a lady called Ruth who is the stepdaughter of Donald Kendall, former president of PepsiCo. Their union ended five years later with two children. He has been married to Diane Sculley since 2013.
Education
Sculley began his formal education at St. Mark's School and continued at Brown University. He earned his master’s certificate from Wharton School.
Facts
He was named as Silicon Valley's top-earning executive in 1987 with a yearly salary of over US$10 million.
He worked alongside renowned businessman Steve Jobs during his time with Apple Inc.
