John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher and social activist. He was very influential in social and political education and theories.
Mill believed in the struggle between control and need to feel independent. He was a tremendous supporter of the Freedom of Speech. In 1861, Mill published the book “The Subjection of Women”. It is known as one of the 1st books on women’s rights written by a male author. Mill also believed in a free market society. His book “Essays on Economics and Society” addresses his economics theories.
Mill struck up a friendship with Harriet Taylor, he considered her his intellectual equal and enjoyed intelligent conversations. When her husband passed away Harriet and Mill married. They had one daughter named Helen. Harriet was a great intellectual and thinker just like Mill, and their daughter was also a great writer and thinker.
