Throughout his career which spanned for over four decades, American singer and songwriter Johnny Mercer wrote more than 1,400 songs. He was a household name during the 1940s and 50s with award-winning tunes like "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe" and "Moon River".
As a singer, he completed a number of projects with some titled “Johnny Mercer Sings” and “Mercy Sings Mercer”. He was also one of the founders of Capitol Records alongside Glenn E. Wallichs and Buddy DeSylva.
Family
He was born to estate developer George Anderson Mercer and his wife Lillian Elizabeth Ciucevich. He raised two children with his wife Ginger Meltzer.

Mercer was a product of Woodberry Forest School.
Accolades
Out of 19 nominations, the songwriter won the Academy Awards four times. He was also honored on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.
