About Johnny Stompanato
Johnny Stompanato Jr. got into the limelight and became the subject of news headlines in the late 1940s and the 1950s for three reasons. The first of them was his romantic relationships with popular Hollywood actresses. The second reason was his association with mid-20th century gangster and crime boss Mickey Cohen as his bodyguard. The third reason, unfortunately, was his death, caused by homicide.
Family Life
He was born to Carmela and John Sr. He grew up alongside three elder siblings. He served in China with the United States Marine and met his first wife, Sara Utush, who made him convert to Islam before their marriage in 1946. He abandoned her and his son in 1947 and went to Hollywood. In his time there, he also married and divorced actresses Helen Gilbert and Helene Stanley. His abusive relationship with actress Lana Turner caused his doom.
Homicide
On 4 April 1958, Cheryl Crane, the daughter of Turner, who was then a teenager, stabbed him to death in act of defence of her mother from Stompanato’s attack.
