About Josef Dietrich
The German Army officer, Josef "Sepp" Dietrich was widely known as the bodyguard of Adolf Hitler. He was a politician who also doubled as an SS commander during the Nazi era.
Early Years
Dietrich lived most of his youth in Germany and joined the Bavarian Army in 1911. His time in the army saw him serving with the Bavarian field artillery. He was later promoted to the rank of Gefreiter in 1917 and awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class.
Career Highlights
Even though the army officer received very little staff officer training, Dietrich held the highest rank as Waffen-SS and later attained the rank of Oberst-Gruppenführer. Dietrich led his army during the Second World War and later took command of the 5th and 6th Panzer Army. The army officer was also present in battles such as the Battle of Greece and the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge.
Personal Life
Dietrich first married Barbara BettiSeidl from 1921 to 1937 but divorced and later married Ursula Moninger-Brenner in 1942.
He died of a heart condition in 1966 and was survived by 3 children.
