About Joseph Beuys
German artist and theorist of art Joseph Beuys had a lot of influence on international contemporary art during the second half of the 20th century. He is known for establishing the art movement of the 1960s and 1970s, Fluxus, whose members participated in experimental art performances with emphasis on the artistic process. The media he employed in his work included sculpture, paint, installation and graphic art. His most significant works include the performance piece, “How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare” and the abstract work of art “Fettecke”.
Family Life
He was brought up in the German town of Kleve by his mother, Johanna Maria Margarete and his father, Josef Jakob Beuys who was a merchant.
Death
He died on January 23, 1986 from heart failure.
