About Joseph Ceravolo
Compared to his poetry contemporaries from the New York School, Joseph Ceravolo’s work veered away from the heavy reliance on humor and conversational language which was the norm. Having begun his poetry career in the late 1950s after studying under poetry professor Kenneth Koch, he combined it with his job as a civil engineer. His poems were also known to focus on nature instead of social topics.
Family Life
He was born to Italian immigrants to the United States. With his wife Rosemary, he had three children named Anita, Paul and James.
Published Works
Among his known works are the poetry collections: “Collected Poems”, “Spring in This World of Poor Mutts” and “Wild Flowers Out of Gas”.
Achievements
“Spring in This World of Poor Mutts” won him the “Frank O’Hara Award for Poetry”.
Death
He was killed by duct cancer in September 1988.
