Joy Williams is an exceptional American novelist and short-story writer known for her award-winning works. Her first novel, State of Grace, was published in 1973 and she followed it with her second, The Changeling, five years later.
Williams has also received acknowledgement for her short story collections such as Taking Care, Escapes, Honored Guests, 99 Stories of God and The Visiting Privilege: New and Collected Stories.
Family Life
Her 34-year marriage to Lawrence Rust Hill, an author and fiction editor, ended when he died in August 2008.
Achievements
Her honors include the Rea Award for the Short Story and the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Harold and Mildred Strauss Living Award.
Her work, State of Grace also received a nomination for the National Book Award for Fiction.
