She is an English actress, comedian and author, who broke into the limelight in 1983 after starring in the same year's comedy-drama, "Educating Rita" where she played the titular role, Susan "Rita" White. Julie Walters went ahead to feature in the 1987 comedy film, "Personal Services" where she played Christine Painter. Few of her works are namely; "Second City Firsts" (1975), "Prick Up Your Ears" (1987), and "Intimate Relations" (1996).

She was born to father, Thomas Walters who worked as a decorator and builder. Her mother, Mary Bridget O'Brien worked as a postal clerk. Her siblings are Kevin and Tom Walters. She married Grant Roffey in 1997. She has a daughter named Maisie Roffey.

She won the "Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical" at the 1984 Golden Globe awards after starring in "Educating Rita" (1983).
