About Junior Mance
Junior Mance was the stage name of Julian Clifford Mance, Jr., a pianist and composer who performed mainly in the jazz and blues musical genres. In 1947, while in his late teens, he began recording with established musicians such as Gene Ammons and Lester Young.
Between 1953 and 1959, he worked in New York City, where he backed Dinah Washington in multiple recordings, toured with her and recorded with three others as members of Cannonball Adderley’s band.
Family Life
He was taught the boogie-woogie and stride piano playing styles by his father, Julian Clifford Mance, Sr. He was married to a woman named Gloria, with whom he formed JunGlo, their record label in 2007.
Death
He died at 92 years old on 17 January 2021.
