About Kathleen Sullivan
There are a lot of firsts when it comes to Kathleen Sullivan. She was the first female name partner at a law firm under the Am Law 100 and the first female dean of Stanford Law School.
Early Life & Education
Sullivan was born in Michigan but grew up in Long Island, New York. In 1972, she graduated from Cold Spring Harbor High School and then went to Cornell University. She later attended Wadham College at the University of Oxford, where she became a Marshall Scholar before returning to the US to attend Harvard Law School.
Career
While at Harvard, Sullivan was appointed assistant professor, eventually receiving a promotion to become a professor of law. She joined Stanford Law School in 1993.
In 2005, she joined the law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges, now known as Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan) to begin her appellate career. She won significant cases such as “Granholm v. Heald” and “Apple Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co.”
Achievements
She was recognized by “The National Law Journal” in 2006 and 2013 as one of America’s most influential lawyers.
Sullivan is also a fellow at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
