Education and Early Life
She went to West Virginia University but dropped out of school after her sophomore year and relocated to Nashville. During her stay at Nashville, she partook in a lot of jobs so as to support her singing career, including once serving as a tour guide at the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Music Career
Mattea’s career began in 1983 after she was noticed by the renowned songwriter Byron Hill and signed her to Mercury Records. She released her first album titled “Kathy Mathea” a year after. The album that gained her recognition was “Walk the Way the Wind Blows” in 1986. It was her third album and was produced by Allen Reynolds. Some of the singles on the album, including “You’re the Power”, were included in the top 10 country music charts during that year. Other albums she released include “Untasted Honey”.
Collaborations
She appeared as a guest vocalist on Dolly Parton’s song “Romeo” in 1993.
Awards
She was the recipient of the “Top Female Vocalist” Award in 1989 from Academy of Country Music Awards.

She walked down the aisle with Jon Vezner in 1988.
