Early Life
Purcell was born in Lancashire, England to a Jamaican father. She started performing on the stage in secondary school.
Career
This television goddess made her debut in the crime series “Cracker” in 1995 and got her big break in a recurring role in the series “Emmerdale” in 1996. She was also featured in the ITV series “Coronation Street” as Rhona Summers in 1997.
Purcell also appeared on “Casualty”, “My Parents Are Aliens”, and “Children's Ward”. She came back to the series “Emmerdale” in 2001 as Cynthia Daggert and got the main role in “Bernard's Watch”.
She became a regular on the television series “Tracy Beaker Returns” as Gina Conway, a role she reprised in “Tracy Beaker Survival Files”. This larger-than-life actress starred as Mrs. Rennison in the sitcom “So Awkward” in 2015.
Death
Purcell announced in 2017 she had breast cancer and documented her treatment on social media. However, she died in December 2020 from metastatic cancer, which had spread to other parts of her body.
