About Ken Mattingly
Ken Mattingly served in the United States Navy before he was selected into the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1966. His first mission was with the Apollo 8 where he worked as a CAPCOM.
He started gaining attention in 1970 when he was included in the Apollo 13 mission as a Command Module Pilot. During his time with the organization, he embarked on missions like STS-51-C, Apollo 16 and STS-4. He’s one of the earliest people to complete the journey from the Earth to the Moon and back.
Family
He was raised by his parents Constance Mason Clarke and Thomas Kenneth Mattingly. The renowned astronaut tied the knot with Elizabeth Dailey in 1970.
Education
Mattingly completed Miami Edison High School and then enrolled at Auburn University.
Decorations
He has been elected into some recognized halls of fame like the International Space Hall of Fame and the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame. Other accolades that he has received include the NASA Space Flight Medal, Navy Distinguished Service Medal and the SETP Ivan C. Kincheloe Award.
Trivia
After ending his work with NASA, he joined General Dynamics Corporation.
