About Kenenisa Bekele
In 2004, Kenenisa Bekele set a new world record in the 5000-meter race. A year later, he broke and set a new record in the 10000-meter race. The Ethiopian long distance runner also won gold in both events at the Summer Olympics in 2008.
He has also participated and excelled in other competitions such as IAAF World Cross Country Championships, and All-Africa Games.

Aside from his achievements on the tracks, Bekele has also won some individual awards which include:
- IAAF World Athlete of the Year (2004 and 2005)
- Ethiopian Person of the Year (2008)
- Track & Field News Athlete of the Year (2004 and 2005)
Trivia
In 2009, the Ethiopian entered into the history books as the first male runner to excel in both the 5000-meter and 10000-meter events at the World Championships in Athletics in a single year.
At the age of 19 years, he set a new 3,000-meter record at the junior level.
