About Kim Jong-il
Kim Jong-il was the supreme leader of North Korea from 1994 until his death in 2011. He was known by several colloquial titles, most notably The Dear Leader. During his regime, he dramatically strengthened the country's military. His leadership was characterized by rampant human rights abuse and economic mismanagement. The latter contributed to the North Korean famine from 1994 to 1998. Upon his death in 2011, he was succeeded by his youngest son Kim Jong-un.
Family Life
He was the son of Kim II-sung and Kim Jong-suk. He had a younger brother named Kim Man-il. He was also the older brother of Kim Kyong-hui. His official wife was Kim Young-sook. He had five known children.

He was afraid of flying and never flew on a plane.
