About Kim Jong-un
Kim Jong-un is a South Korean politician who took over the role of Supreme Leader of his country in 2011. He is largely known to the global community as a dictator who has little to no qualms in terms of getting into beef with more-powerful countries.
Under Kim’s leadership North Korea has been hit with a number of sanctions from the likes of the European Union, United Nations, Russia and United States. These were primarily as a result of his regime’s insistence to forge ahead with the development of nuclear weapons despite mainstream international disapproval of such action.
Family Life
His grandfather is Kim Il-sung, the man who founded North Korea in 1948 and also led the country for almost four decades.
His father was Kim Jong-il, who ran North Korea from 1994 until 2011.
His mother, Ko Yong-hui, was a long-time consort of his father.
Via his mother and father’s union he has an elder brother named Kim Jong-chul and a junior sister named Kim Yo-jong.
He also has an additional pair of elder half-siblings in Kim Jong-nam, his father’s eldest son and Kim Sul-song, his father’s eldest daughter.
He is believed to have married a lady, Ri Sol-ju, in 2009 and he is known to have a daughter with her by the name of Ju-ae who was born in 2010.
Achievements
Kim became the leader of North Korea after his father passed away in late 2011.
In 2018 he met with US President Donald Trump in what has been dubbed the North Korea - United States Singapore Summit. This was the first time the leaders of these two countries, who are regularly at odds with each other, actually met.
He is an able international diplomat who has helped strengthen his country’s relationship with the likes of China, Russia, North Korea’s long-time rival South Korea and even to some extent the United States.
Trivia
He is known to be a huge basketball fan, especially of the dynastic 1990s’ Chicago Bulls of the NBA and the team’s iconic leader, Michael Jordan. And in that regard he is also recognized as a personal friend of one of the Bulls’ most-popular players from that era, Dennis Rodman, who has visited him and North Korea on numerous occasions.
In addition to being a Bulls’ fan he is also said to favor the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, the classic British rock band The Beatles and Belgian action star Jean-Claude Van Damme.
He’s had a number of back-and-forths with US President Donald Trump, who famously gave Kim Jong-un the nickname of “Rocket Man” due to his aforementioned nuclear-missile based ambitions.
Kim is said to have schooled in Switzerland, albeit under an alias, during his teenage years.
He is largely recognized as a dictator, though hard facts to corroborate this claim have not been abundant.
He is rumoured to have dealt with a number of health issues throughout the years. Moreover, in April 2020 credible reports began to circulate that the North Korean leader was either in a coma or dead.
Although Kim does not necessarily appear in the public spotlight as such, he is said to be a ridiculously-wealthy individual.
