Broadway diva Kim Stanley was a multiple Tony Award nominee. She played only four roles in movies over the course of her career, yet she was nominated for two Oscars and won an Emmy Award.
Her Life
She was born in Tularosa, New Mexico in 1925. At the time of her birth she was given the name Patricia Reid. Kim Stanley majored in drama at the University of New Mexico before studying at the Pasadena Playhouse.
She wed four times. She converted to Judaism while married to Alfred Ryder.
Death
The actress succumbed to uterine cancer at the age of 76.
Career
Broadway successes like “Picnic” (1953) and “Bus Stop” featured her as the lead. In "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", she played Maggie "The Cat."
She appeared in "The Goddess" (1958), "Séance on a Wet Afternoon" (1964), "The Right Stuff" (1983) both of which received accolades.
Honors
In 2012, she was posthumously inducted into the New Mexico Entertainment Hall of Fame. While she was alive, she was honored with an induction into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1985.
