About Kit Carson
Kit Carson was the nickname of American frontiersman, Army officer, Indian agent, wilderness guide and mountain man Christopher Houston Carson. He rose to fame and continues to be a legend as a result of exaggerations of his exploits captured in news articles and his biographies. He first rose to national fame after explorer John C. Fremont who had hired him as a guide penned commentaries and reports of their expeditions. As a military officer, he participated in selected battles of the Mexican-American War, Jicarilla War, American Civil War, Navajo Wars and Plain Indian Wars.
Family Life
He was one of the ten children of his mother, Rebecca Robinson and one of the 15 children of his father, Lindsay Carson. He had ten children from his three marriages. His third marriage to Josefa Jaramillo ended with her death a month before his.
Death
He died on 23th May 1868 from abdominal aortic aneurysm.
