About Knut Hamsun
Knut Hamsun’s versatility earned him the reputation as one of the most stylist and influential writers from the 1870s to the 1940s. Touching on a wide range of subjects such as the environment, the Norwegian writer published over 20 novels and many short stories throughout his career which lasted for more than seven decades.
In 1877, he published his maiden book which was entitled “The Enigmatic Man: A Love Story from Northern Norway (Den Gaadefulde: En Kjærlighedshistorie fra Nordland)”. His other well-known novels included “Mysteries” and “On Overgrown Paths”.
Family
At birth, he was named Knud Pedersen and was raised by his parents Peder Pedersen and Tora Olsdatter alongside six other children. He divorced Bergljot Göpfert in 1906 before marrying Norwegian actress Marie Hamsun three years later. He was blessed with five kids.
Awards
In 1920, he was honored with the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Fun Facts
His novels such as “Landstrykere” and “Dreamers” have been adapted into films.
In the 1996 film “Hamsun”, his character was played by Max von Sydow.
He influenced some great writers like Henry Miller, Stefan Zweig, and Thomas Mann.
