Kofi Kingston began his career as a wrestler with the New England Independent Circuit where he depicted a Jamaican character known as "Kofi Nahaje Kingston".
In 2006, he agreed to a development deal with WWE and had to shorten his ring name to "Kofi Kingston". He had his official appearance in WWE in 2008.

He was born to mother, Elizabeth and father, Kwasi Sarkodie-Mensah. He is noted to have a brother and a sister, named Kwame and Nana Akua respectively.
Kingston got married to Kori Campfield in 2010 and their children include; Khi and Orion.
