About Kristi Yamaguchi
Kristi Yamaguchi made history in 1992 as the first Asian-American woman to win a Winter Olympic gold medal. She began her amateur figure skating career in the mid-1980s. She competed both as a singles skater and as a pairs skater alongside Rudy Galindo, with whom she participated in the U.S. Championships, the World Junior Championships and the World Figure Skating Championships. After 1990, she chose to focus solely on a singles career.
Family Life
A third-generation descendant of emigrants from Japan, she was born to Carole Doi and Jim Yamaguchi. She has been married to retired ice hockey player Bret Hedican since 2000. They have two daughters together.
Achievements
She won three gold medals in her professional singles career: one from the 1992 Winter Olympics and two from the World Championships.
Trivia
She participated in season six of “Dancing with the Stars” and emerged as the winner.
