In total, he wrote 14 novels, 5 plays and dozens of short stories. He is best known for his satirical novel "Slaughterhouse-Five", which was a New York Times Best Seller and earned him a Hugo Award. Most of his books have been adapted into successful films.
His Personal Life
He was of German descent. He was married twice. He had 3 biological children and 4 adopted ones, 3 of which were his sister's sons, after she died of cancer and her husband died in a train accident.
He served in the US Army during WWII and was captured and imprisoned in Dresden. He survived the bombing of that city by the Allies by hiding in a meat locker.
