About Lal Bahadur Shastri
Lal Bahadur Shastri was an Indian politician best remembered for being the second Prime Minister of India, a position he held from 1964 until his demise in 1966. Prior to becoming Prime Minister, he held a number of important positions such as the Minister of External Affairs and Minister of Home Affairs.
Family Life
He was the eldest son of Ramdulari Devi and Sharada Shrivastava. He got married to Lalita Devi in 1928. From the union, six children were born, including Anil Shastri.
Trivia
He was honored posthumously with the Republic of India's highest civilian award the Bharat Ratna in 1966, thereby making him the first person to be posthumously honored with the prestigious award.
Despite the official cause of his death being a heart attack, many Indians, including his wife Lalita, believe he was poisoned.
Upon his death in the Soviet Union in 1966, he became the first Indian Prime Minister to die overseas.
