About Lance Berkman
Despite being selected into the MLB by the Houston Astros in 1997, Lance Berkman spent the first two seasons of his professional career in the minor league where he played for teams like the Jackson Generals, and the Kissimmee Cobras.
After impressing in the league, he returned to the Astros and played his first MLB game in 1999. Mostly used as a first baseman or an outfielder, Berkman played for many teams before announcing his retirement in 2014. Some of the teams he played for were the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the Cardinals team that won the World Series in 2011.
Coaching career
The former American baseball star decided to stay in the sport after ending his playing career. He was first named as an assistant coach at his former school, Rice University. He was later made the head coach of Second Baptist School before being appointed as Houston Baptist Huskies’ head coach in 2021.
Family
He was raised by his parents Larry Gene Berkman and Cynthia Ann Thomas. He has been married to Cara Berkman with whom he has four kids.
Education
In 1994, he completed his education at Canyon High School. He continued at Rice University.
Achievements
In 2011, he won the National League’s Comeback Player of the Year. That same year, he received a Players Choice Award for the same category. He’s a member of the Houston Astros Hall of Fame.
Trivia
He was nicknamed the "Big Puma".
