About Langston Hughes
Langston Hughes was an American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist.
His Work
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's official magazine, The Crisis, was the vessel that carried the works of Langston Hughes to recognition. It published more of Hughes' original poems than any other magazine or journal. One of Hughes' most famous poems, “The Negro Speaks of Rivers,” was published in The Crisis in 1921. The style of this and much of his other work is now often called jazz poetry. This style was characteristic of the Harlem Renaissance, a movement of which Langston Hughes was a leader.
