About Lani Hall
Leilani Hall, as she was officially named, was a singer, producer and author born in Chicago.
In 1973, she became the wife of Herb Alpert which is why she uses the name Lani Hall Alpert. Together, they birthed a daughter who is now an acclaimed actress by name Aria Alpert.
In 1965, she went to The Centaur, a coffee house and performed there. Among the audience was Sérgio Mendes, a well-recognized pianist from Brazil. He was also a band leader who had heard her singing once before. He spoke to her about becoming the lead singer of his group and after a few deliberations, she joined them. The group Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66 was popular. Their Brazilian track "Mas Que Nada" was a hit. They went on to gather more fans and release great tracks.
She left the above-noted group in 1971. She decided to go solo while her works were supervised and produced by Herb Alpert. She started releasing hit tracks in 1982. She decided she wanted to try writing since she loved to write poetry when she was younger. She released “Emotional Memoirs & Short Stories” which she had written for over three decades.
Her track “Es Fácil Amar” earned her the Grammy Award for “Best Latin Pop Performance”. In 1984, she partnered with Camilo Sesto and released "Corazón Encadenado" which also won her a Grammy.
