About Larry Graham
Larry Graham has been lauded for introducing the slapping style of playing the bass guitar. He started gaining attention in 1966 as one of the founding members of the band known as ‘’Sly and the Family Stone’’. Before leaving the group in 1972, he helped them to release five studio albums including their maiden one titled “A Whole New Thing”.
Solo project
After breaking ties with the ‘’Sly and the Family Stone’’ group, he established his own collective called the Graham Central Station. By the end of 2012, the group had released a total of 12 albums. As a sole performer, he’s best known for his 1980 hit song "One in a Million You" which broke into the US Billboard Hot 100’s top ten list. His most popular album titled “Just Be My Lady” was released in 1981.
Personal Life
His son Darric Graham is known to be a producer and singer. His nephew is the Canadian rapper Aubrey Drake Graham, known in private life as Drake.
Achievements
He was selected into the famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
Trivia
His “slapping” technique has been popularized by musicians like Victor Wooten, Bootsy Collins and Mark King.
