The 2006 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee Larry Gene Nelson is an American-born professional golfer who made his name known in the PGA tour and Champions Tour competition. Nelson has recorded over 9 wins on the PGA tour and also has more than 3 wins under his belt on the Japanese tour.
Education
Nelson began his education at the North Cobb High School, graduated and later enrolled at the Kennesaw State University. During this time, his primary focus was on basketball, but he moved to golf at the age of 21. After graduating college, Nelson focused more on his golf career.
Career
The golf player turned professional in 1971 and went on to compete in the PGA Championship, where he won in 1981 and 1987. He also made a mark in the Master's Tournament in 1987 as well as the U.S. Open in 1983, where he also gave a very good account of himself. The golfer has chalked over 40 professional wins from various championships as of 2021.
Achievements
Larry Nelson was awarded the PGA Distinguished Service Award from the PGA of America in 2011.
