About Laura Nyro
Before rising to fame, Laura Nyro mostly performed at her high school. During one of her performances, she came across Paul Barry and Artie Mogull who were then working with a record label. They would later become the singer’s first managers.
In 1966, she released her maiden album entitled “More Than a New Discovery”. Her later albums “New York Tendaberry” and “Eli and the Thirteenth Confession” were some of her popular projects.

Throughout her musical career, she worked with many top artists including Barbra Streisand and Labelle. Known for her emotive vocals, she impacted on the style of many legendary singers including Elton John, Alice Cooper, and Joni Mitchell.
Family
She was born to Louis Nigro, who was a popular jazz trumpeter and piano tuner. Her mum was called Gilda Nigro. She had a brother named Jan Nigro. She got married to David Bianchini in 1971, but they divorced five years later. She had a child with Harindra Singh called Gil Bianchini, who would become an actor.
Education
She had her training at High School of Music & Art. Before that, she attended the New York Society for Ethical Culture.
Honors
In 2010, she was ushered into the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame. Two years later, she became a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Death
She suffered from ovarian cancer which later caused her death.
