About Laura Ziskin
Laura Ziskin, an American film producer and writer, was the first woman to produce the Academy Awards telecast on her own. She did so for the 74th Academy Awards in 2002 and the 79th Academy Awards in 2007. Ziskin produced several films, including “To Die For”, and the well-known "Spider-Man" trilogy (from 2002 to 2007), which starred Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco and J.K. Simmons, among others. She was also given posthumous credit for the production of “The Amazing Spider-Man”, a 2012 film which was directed by Marc Webb.
Personal Life
Her career as a writer for game shows began after she earned her degree in cinematic arts from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 1973.
She was married twice – first, to American screenwriter and playwright Julian Barry, and second, to screenwriter Alvin Sargent.
On June 12, 2011, she succumbed to breast cancer. She was survived by her husband Alvin Sargent and a child.
Career
In 1984, she and Sally Field founded Fogwood Films, which produced “Murphy's Romance” (1985). Her biggest breakthrough came with the 1990 release of the comedy “Pretty Woman”. In the film, which was directed by Garry Marshall, Laura Ziskin served as the executive producer.
After five years at Fox 2000, she made the switch to producing the Spider Man trilogy, a box office success for Columbia Pictures.
