Laurence Harvey’s Rise to Fame
He rose to international prominence through his performance in the 1959 British film, “Room at the Top”. He is also remembered for his roles in Hollywood as William Barret Travis in the film, “The Alamo” and Sergeant Raymond Shaw in “The Manchurian Candidate”. In 1963, he directed his first film, “The Ceremony”.
Family Life
He was born Zvi Mosheh Skikne to Ber Skikne and Ella Zotnickaita. He was raised in Lithuania from birth until the age of five when his family moved to South Africa in 1934. He moved to the UK in 1946. He dated actress Hermione Baddeley. He was married three times: to actress Margaret Leighton, actress Joan Perry (1968-1972) and model Paulene Stone (1972). He had two children.
Achievements
He was a two-time BAFTA Award nominee and a 1959 Academy Award nominee.
Death
He died from stomach cancer on November 25, 1973.
